Francesco Brunetti was born in Bologna on 10 June 1941.
He died on 4 December 1995 in his home in Crespellano
Francesco, known as Checco , is in poor health and, due to too many absences, is not admitted to the fifth grade exam. It turns out to be a great opportunity: the new teacher recognizes such an artistic streak in him that he recommends enrolling him in the Art Institute. Here, despite excelling in all artistic forms, he turned towards sculpture.
Graduated as a Master of Art , he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. His creative commitment in the graphic-advertising sector for some industries and publishing houses dates back to these years.
At the beginning of the 60s his first successes in the artistic field arrived: at just 19 years old he won the 1st prize for sculpture at the " Premio Nazionale Lerici ", followed by numerous other awards in the following years.
The official start in the world of Art took place at the beginning of teaching, as assistant to Professor Enzo Pasqualini at the Liceo Artistico in Bologna and with his first "personal" exhibition in 1970 at the "La Nuova Loggia" Art Gallery in Bologna.
In addition to the artistic company of his uncle Bruno Saetti, a now established painter from Bologna, Francesco grew up in the friendship and school of Giovanni Korompay , a painter.
Several art critics have written about him on the occasion of exhibitions or awards: Luigi Lambertini, Luciano Bertacchini, Giorgio Ruggeri, Oscar Signorini, Valerio Dehò, Mirta Carroli, Corrado Marsan, Lorenza Trucchi, Silyus and others.
Between the 70s and 80s there were several personal exhibitions that the artist exhibited in Rome, Modena, Rovigo, Bologna, Venice, Riccione (FC), Crespellano (BO) and other locations.
The 80s and 90s were more dedicated to works of sacred art : Crucifixes, chalices (even one embossed specifically for Pope John Paul II visiting Bologna and which the artist managed to give to him personally), a gospel book, a staff pastoral (given on behalf of the diocese to Monsignor Giacomo Biffi for his appointment as cardinal) and other minor works commissioned.
In 2016, his wife Elisabetta curates the celebratory exhibition " The Tale of Matter " together with the Municipality of Valsamoggia (BO), 20 years after the artist's death, with the patronage of the Diocese of Bologna, the contribution of the Pro Loco of Crespellano and the collaboration of the “Artifigurative” gallery.
We spend a wonderful hour in which he explains to me the meaning of his abstract works, which he gives the name "Finds": works of iron and wood, where the material (beams, sheets, bolts) is worked by him to take on the appearance of an object worn by time, rusty, broken and reassembled, with the final result of an artifact that belonged to our time and preserved as a testimony for future times. Sometimes the finds are cast in bronze from wax models that he himself composes in his studio. He also explains to me that the title of "Find" is followed by a number beyond 2000, in reference to the year in which it will hypothetically be found by the man of tomorrow. The same number, assigned in progressive order to his works, recalls the numbering given to objects found during archaeological expeditions
