About Lyra (Nuremberg, Germany):

Founded in 1806, Lyra is one of the world's oldest and most respected manufacturers of writing instruments. While today they are global leaders in high-quality pencils and art supplies, in the early 20th century, Lyra produced some of the finest fountain pens in Germany, rivaling giants like Montblanc and Pelikan in craftsmanship and durability.

The "Orlow" Prestige:

The Orlow name—inspired by the legendary 18th-century Orlov Diamond—was reserved exclusively for Lyra’s premium, top-tier products. While standard models were made for the general public, the Orlow line represented "Extra Class" quality, combining precision German engineering with noble materials like 14k gold and high-grade ebonite.

RARITY & COLLECTOR'S NOTE:

While antique Lyra pencils can still be found today, Lyra Safety fountain pens are exceptionally rare. Most of these instruments were lost or damaged over the decades, and finding one with a smoothly functioning mechanism and a well-preserved ebonite body is a true rarity. This is a "Holy Grail" item for collectors of German vintage pens and a significant investment piece.
